Don't for any second think that the only reason to go to Budapest may be the price though. The cities of Buda and Pest were combined in 1873, so for many of the history they've been totally separate. The castle and several from the cities historical monuments lie in Buda. This side from the city is better characterised by winding alleyways and green spaces. The best views within the city range from parkland at the top of Gelert Hill. The Fisherman's Bastion also gives stunning views of the parliament building.
In the other part from the Danube (around the South bank) lies Pest, a place many would say is the more vibrant and modern side from the Hungarian capital. If you have been amazing bars and restaurants on this side of the city in addition to a lot of the accommodation. It is in no way devoid of historical sites though, being the place to find the country's parliament in addition to St Stephen's Basilica. Should you ever have a chance to determine a classical concert within the basilica, go. The acoustics are perfect.
There's so much to see and do in Budapest that you really are spoiled for choice. The city is filled with world heritage sites from and it has been voted one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. With its relaxed vibe it is also regarded as one of the most liveable cities in the world.

Although Buda and the castle district is rather hilly (well, it's built on the hill so hilly may well be a better description) the town is extremely bike friendly. You can easily circumvent all the main sites in bike lanes. There is plenty of park land around Heroes Square where one can ride out to the large complex of thermal baths.
You actually would be remiss while in the city not to take the metro at least one time. It's the second oldest underground system in the world and the Millennium Underground Railway (or M1 for brief) may be the oldest line. It's not necessary to be considered a train spotter to savor the knowledge.
